The Ever-Growing TBR List

My friend Cath posted some photo's of her latest book buys, which made me think I should do that too.. a little book porn never hurt. Except in my case they are not used books so it hurts in the ol' wallet! It seems England has some great charity sales around where Cath lives and so she gets some really great bargains!! I may not get many bargains but I am always happy when someone else gets them, for there are few of us that couldn't use bargain books!

So here is the pile of newest books I've gotten. (no, not all at once!)

Garth Nix's book of Sabriel was sent to me by my adopted son Chris a few weeks ago. In turn I went to amazon and ordered the other 2 books of the trilogy. Book 3 arrived shortly after but book 2 was "out of stock". (grrrrrrrrr) After waiting for a few weeks I finally got book 3, but now I am reading stuff for RIP so these will wait a touch longer.

The next three just sounded like something I'd like so one or two at a time I ordered them. The Ghost Writer is one of this years recommendations from Carl. I can't imagine any book being nearly as good as the Thirteenth Tale but we'll see what this one has to offer.

I've read Obert Skye's Leven Thump books with enjoyment so when I read this:

fifteen-year-old Beck Phillips travels by train to the secluded village of Kingsplot to live with his wealthy but estranged uncle, Beck discovers some dark family secrets. A buried basement, a forbidden wall, an old book of family history with odd references to... dragons?

Well.. I mean.. it says "dragons"! Of course I'll give it a go!

And as for The Magicians and Mrs Quent.. .. a little magic never hurt right?

Before the RIP Challenge began I had already sent for the book on Mary Pickford but since then I also sent for The Parade's Gone By and The Star Machine. The Pickford book and Parade's Gone by relates mostly to the time when silent movies were king, which I can't seem to get enough of. Hopefully these books should be enough, along with all the books I've already read recently, to satisfy me for a while.

I've often enjoyed Biography's and Autobiographies but after I read the book "Stan and Ollie" by Simon Louvish I seemed to have become obsessed with reading about many of the actors who began in Vaudeville, went to Silent Movies and then to talkies.. especially when the books tell me a lot abut the making of Silent Movies and how things were back then. I hope by getting these 3 books , that by the time I read them I will have had " my fill" for a while!

I've enjoyed every book I've read since the Stan and Ollie book which included Money Business by the same author, The Other Side of Oz by Buddy Ebsen, Making Movies by Sidney Lumet, and Movies, DW Griffith and Me by Lillian Gish.

It's strange how certain topics can grab you when you least expect it. I suspect it has something to do with reading things by authors that do more than just state the obvious.

So... that's the newest stash.. which brings my TBR list up to FOURTY-FIVE BOOKS! *gasp!

yay, you got the rest of the Old Kingdom trilogy! I love those books. Can't wait to see what you think of them. They could probably count for RIP if you wanted to...all the stuff with the necromancers is pretty dark!

This is an exciting post, Pat! You made me drool. I think I want to do some book porn too. LOL.

(I've stopped doing that for a bit because it's kinda 'obscene' flashing my new acquisitions all the time. Online shopping is not helping because it's soooo easy to buy 'em. ahahaaaa)

cath: Oh look! here's the "someone" who did book porn! hehehehe.. I don't know what to do I have so many tbr's lately! think I'll take a short break after Dracula and read the Mary Pickford book.. then maybe MAYBE the Historian.. not sure of that yet.. all the books I've been reading have all been over 400 pgs long I may need a break to a shorter book! lol

Oh, and I was thinking the same thing as Nymeth...the Nix books could definitely count towards the RIP challenge as there's a good bit of dark dark fantasy in there dealing with the land of the dead!

rhinoa: I don't think I've read a bad review on the Garth Nix books so they are near the top of the tbr list!

chris: yeah.. drove me nuts to not have the middle book ! but I have some books for RIP that if I don't make myself read them for this they will sit there until next year! So those have to come first.. and right now I'm reading Dracula..although "interesting" it's not making me pick it up and read every free moment I have like some other books do!

Yay, book porn, it has been too long!!! Good stuff too! I look forward to The Ghost Writer as well. I got it from the library the other day. I don't expect it to be as good as Thirteenth Tale, but I hope it is fun and creepy.
