What an absolutely beautifully illustrated book this is.
The story is short and direct and of course can be read in one short sitting to a child... but the illustrations are really something else.
I'm glad I found these two books that my brother had and managed to keep . They are a delight to read and very appreciated by my eyes.

Oh, wow, Pat. Those are two absolutely gorgeous books. Thank you so much for taking so many pictures and give a great idea of what the illustrations are like! *hugs*
libritouches: this one was a delight as the author was also the illustrator.. they are rather old books though.

What lovely illustrations. I always enjoyed books like these as a child...books that could capture my imagination (both reading and seeing). Thanks for sharing.
chris: the illustrations in this book are incredible..
kathleen: it's a shame publishers don't seem to be able to afford such illustrations anymore.
Those are some very fine illios. Especially liked the colorful ones as I am sure any child reading it would. Great talking with you last night. Sorry I had to stop but the ladies were arriving and had to feed the herd. But I will give you a call soon. Take care of yourself.
Absolutely beautiful. I am not familiar with this version, thanks for sharing.
I think my mouth fell open and I forgot to breathe. Those illustrations are stunning. Beautiful, and thank you so much for sharing, Pat! Top of my to-get list!
PS I just showed my daughter the illustrations - she was delighted! And wants to know how they stopped the troll from killing the prince (2nd last illustration.) Guess I'll have to buy the book now! lol!!
